Manga of the Week - ヴィンランド・サガ

Testing to see how weekly series show up this template.

Manga of ze Week - Feel-Good series

Had a bit of difficulty deciding what to put up this week. Double feature's have been eating through my reserve list. Some of the series coming up might be not as great as past ones. ごめなさい。

Picture isn't of the manga, though it's definitely related to one of them.

Title: バーテンダー, Bartender
Author: Joh Araki (story), Nagatomo Kenji (art)
Genre: Seinen, drama, slice of life
Serialized in: Shueisha Super Jump
Total Volume Count: 15

Summary from MangaUpdates:
The story of the Sasakura Ryu and Eden Hall, a small cocktail bar in the Chiba area of Tokyo, where troubled customers come for the "glass of the gods," which with Ryu's assistance helps them to resolve their often highly emotional problems.

The above is the synopsis of the anime. In the manga, Ryu starts out working in a bar called Lapin.
Kenn's Comment: I get the feeling this, like Black Lagoon, though on a completely different plate, is a bit of a love-it-or-hate-it kind of manga. People who really into action and fanservice might not find it too palatable, though slice of life enthusiasts might love it. It's definitely better than it sounds, and the synopsis doesn't really do the series justice. Give it a try!

Title: ばらかもん, Barakamon
Author: Yoshino Satsuki
Genre: Shounen, Comedy, Slice of Life
Serialized in: Square Enix GanGan Powered
Total Volume Count: 1 (ongoing)

Summary from MangaUpdates:
As a punishment for punching a famous Calligrapher, young handsome Calligrapher Handa Seishu is exiled on a small island. As someone who has never lived outside of a city, Handa has to adapt to his new wacky neighbors, like people traveling on a tractor, unwanted visitors who never use the front door, annoying kids using his home as a playground, etc. Can this city guy handle all the crazy hardships? Find out in this wacky island comedy full of innocence and laughter!!!
Kenn's Comment: Duuuude, I love this manga. It's got a nice feel to it. I suppose you could almost compare it to Yotsuba&! It's really cute, and all the characters are really fun. Give this one a try for sure!

Manga of ze Week - Pavane & Tea

Image from Crunchyroll

Well, actually the title isn't Pavane and tea. They're parts of the titles of the two series this week.

Title: 亡き少女の為のパヴァーヌ, Naki Shoujo no Tame no Pavane, Pavane Pour Une Fille Défunte, Pavane for a Dead Girl
Author: Koge-Donbo*
Genre: Shounen, Drama, Fantasy, Historical, Mystery, Romance, Supernatural
Serialized in: Mag Garden Comic Blade
Total Volume Count: 4 (ongoing)

Summary from Syuura:

During a field trip to the imperial capital, Tokyo, Kaga Nanao overhears the beautiful melody of a violin and immediately becomes captivated by it. In order to meet the mystery violinist, Nanao learns the violin and defies her father's wishes by attending the Marianne Music Academy for girls in Tokyo. Upon arriving at the school, Nanao comes across her mystery violinist who turns out to be Sagami Takenomaru, the violin prodigy and adopted son of the famous violinist, Sagami Chougo-sensei. However, Takenomaru isn't just a regular person, he's determined to complete a mission and fulfill a contract...

Note: "Naki Shoujo no Tame no Pavane" means "Pavane for a Dead Girl" and is a wordplay on the Japanese translation of a solo piano piece, written by French composer Maurice Ravel in 1899, called "Pavane pour une infante défunte" - Naki Ōjo no Tame no Pavane or Pavane for a Dead Princess.
Kenn's Comment: Well, it's Koge-Donbo* so you might as well find some tissue before reading this. She always has such tragic stories. I've only read about 4 chapters so far, but with only those, plus her past series, I'll assume that it's quite something. I think I might have read somewhere that it's slated for an anime adaption sometime in the future?

Title: 飴色紅茶館歓談, Ameiro Kouchakan Kandan, Chatting at the Amber Teahouse
Author: Fujieda Miyabi
Genre: Shoujo-Ai, Comedy, Slice of Life
Serialized in: Ichijinsha Comic Yuri Hime
Total Volume Count: 1 (ongoing)

Summary from MangaUpdates:
Set at a shop called The Amber Teahouse, this is a very heartwarming story that focuses on Seriho, the proprietor of the teahouse, and Sarasa, the high school student who works there part-time. It'll set your heart aflutter!
Kenn's Comment: Very cute characters with a rather calm and equally cute setting and story. As I've stated in the genre, it is a Shoujo-Ai (Girl's Love), or romance between two girls. If you can't take that, then I suggest you probably won't like this (although it's not lesbian porn mind you).

Manga of the Week - ブラック・ラグーン

Image from BD Omake

;D マジカル レビちゃん~

Sorry, that should say, Magical Revy-chan~.

Title: ブラック・ラグーン, Black Lagoon
Author: Hiroe Rei
Genre: Seinen, Action, Adventure, Comedy, Drama
Serialized in: Shogakukan SundayGX
Total Volume Count: 9 (ongoing)

Summary from VIZ:
Lock n' load with the baddest soldiers of fortune ever to hit the high seas of Southeast Asia! Aboard their World War II era torpedo boat, the Black Lagoon, Dutch the Boss, Benny the Mechanic, Revy Two Hand, and Rock, the salaryman from Japan, deliver anything, anywhere. In the dangerous underworld of the Russian Mafia, Chinese Triads, Colombian drug cartels, crazed assassins, and ruthless mercenaries, it's hard to know who to trust. But if you've got a delivery to make, and you don't mind a little property damage along the way, you can count on the crew of the Black Lagoon.
Kenn's Comment: It's very, very arc based. I'll say that first. Each arc is similar in a way, though not quite. Basically, the manga is organized into asymmetrical arcs where they're doing whatever, usually involving lots of guns, and killings. If you can't take blood, this probably isn't for you.

With that aside, I quite like Black Lagoon. It's not exactly something that I'd read over and over again, like Superior; Black Lagoon's arc organization makes it easy to pick and choose an arc to read. The omakes for the volumes are absolutely awesome though. From genderbending all the characters, to having all the characters being much younger. They're hilarious.

This is pretty much what Black Lagoon is all about, very accurately depicted in this MAD AMV. Song by LORDI. ^^; Hard Rock Hallelujah~

Manga of ze Week - 学園アリス

=3= Next week's will be better.

Title: 学園アリス, Gakuen Alice, Alice Academy
Author: Higuchi Tachibana
Genre: Shoujo, Comedy, Drama, Romance, Supernatural
Serialized in: Hakusensha Hana to Yume
Total Volume Count: 21 (ongoing)
Licensed by: Tokyopop (8 volumes, ongoing)

Summary from Tokyopop:
Young Mikan runs away to Tokyo to follow her best friend, Hotaru, who has been enrolled in an exclusive, secretive private school for geniuses. But it turns out that Alice Academy is a lot more than meets the eye. If Mikan wants to stay by Hotaru's side, she has to both pass the strange "entrance exam" and face the even greater challenge of befriending her very odd new classmates. Whether it's Hotaru's gift for inventing gadgets, the cranky Natsume's fire-casting ability, or Professor Narumi's control of human pheromones, everyone at the school has some sort of special talent. But what ability, if any, does Mikan possess? Mikan is going to have to rely on her courage and spunk if she's going to stay in school, or even stay alive!

Kenn's Comment: =3= Sometimes, I really just want to nuke that school. =3= Higuchi Tachibana kinda made it somewhat obvious that a certain person was Mikan's mother, with all the hints dropped. =3= The manga is pretty good though, the different arcs have quite different feelings to them. Lots of drama, and a good dollop of comedy. Romance thrown into the mix, in a bowl of supernatural. =3= Pretty much what it's like. The later chapters are quite drama heavy. The anime covers the first 6 volumes.

Manga of ze Week - わ!

Hoo~! It's sunday! Sunday means manga of ze week! Here it is!

Title: わ!, Wa!
Author: Kojima Akira
Genre: Shounen, Comedy, Romance, Slice of Life
Serialized in: Square Enix Gangan Joker, Gangan Online
Total Volume Count: 1 (ongoing)
Summary from MangaUpdates:
At Takamanohara School, lots of the students have crushes, but all on different people. In fact, if you trace out who likes who, it makes a full circle! This is the story of that circle of crushes.
Kenn's Comment:
It's a nice fun manga. And regarding that summary, I've traced who likes who for ya. A bit of a spoiler, so it's at the bottom if you want it.

Yes, it's by the same author of Mahoraba. Loved that series. There's supposedly also an alternate story, まなびや (Manabiya),  which, based on the cover, I assume that if you trace the path and what not, you get a square on who like who. Then again, the story is about a photography club, so the fact that the character is making a square could also be a reference to the photo.

Spoiler Alert!

Manga of ze Week - Blood Alone

Image from here

=3= Not sure what to catagorize this one as.

Title: Blood Alone
Author: Takano Masayuki
Genre: Seinen, Drama, Romance, Mystery, Supernatural
Serialized in: Media Works Dengeki Daioh, Infinity Studios (English License, never heard of them either)
Total Volume Count: 5 (ongoing)

Summary from Infinity Studios
Enter Misaki, perhaps the most innocent and most sincere young lady there ever was. It’s almost inconceivable that she could be a vampire. And with her powers as a vampire, she could easily entice any human to do her bidding…but she chooses not to. Especially when it comes to Kuroe, a young author who has a deep running past with vampires. This wonderful story of pure innocent love charmingly bonds Misaki to the readers. She’ll absolutely delight you with her earnest love for a human and her resolve to protect a willing mutual relationship versus turning Kuroe.
Kenn's Comment: The manga's events, for some of them at least, are based on Takano's original works for this. Was originally a set of doujinshi, with the same characters and whatnot, and each book would be a different event, ie. a Christmas night or whatnot. Anywho, it's a good series. A nice charm to it. Again, the sites I use to look around for information about manga classified this as shounen, and I really didn't buy that, so I gave it a seinen tag. Plus the doujins are seinen, so why wouldn't by the adaptation be? MangaFox gave this a Lolicon tag. I can't really rule that out, though at the same time, I can't say it's really lolicon. =3= Plus Lolicon seems to carry a certain stigma that makes people avoid it. =3=

Manga of ze Week - オナニーマスター黒沢

Despite the title, I'd say that this is some of the best manga I've ever read. I kid you not.

Title: オナニーマスター黒沢, Onani Master Kurosawa, Masturbation Master Kurosawa
Author: Ise Katsura (story), YOKO (art)
Genre: Seinen, Drama, Slice of Life, Romance
Serialized: Weekly Young VIP
Total Volume Count: 4 (complete)

Summary (from Hidoi~! Translators):
Onani means masturbation. And that's what this guy is good at. Every day after school, he sneaks into the mostly unused girls bathroom on the 3rd floor, and masturbates. Until one day when he's caught...

This is a story of mistakes, redemption, and the choices made in between. It contains the worst and best of the human condition.
Kenn's Comment: Don't let the summary or title turn you away from this manga. I've only heard good things about this one. I walked into the manga preparing myself for a manga like Yomeiro, but holy crap, I did  not expect it to turn out this good.

The story is a coming-of-age story. And pretty good one at that. Good enough that I'd call it some of the best manga I've read in the last few years. The end of the series...it's just so beautiful! Don't let the art turn you off either. Plus, the art is good, with a few parodies here and there.

Again, don't let the title and summary mislead you. You will regret not reading this!

Fake Opening

Manga of ze Week - あまんちゅ!

Image from here.

First one of the year. It's pretty darn good too.

Title: あまんちゅ!, Amanchu!
Author: Amano Kozue
Genre: Shounen, Comedy, Slice of Life
Serialized in: Mag Garden Comic Blade
Total Volume Count: 1 (ongoing)

Summary from MangaFox:

A 15-year-old girl living her life until another 16-year-old girl comes along. They find themselves becoming the best of friends as they each discover the wonders of their home. A story following the life of a care-free girl who loves the sea!

 Kenn's Comment:
= =" Sorry. I know that summary isn't very good, but I can't think of one myself, and there are really none out there that are that much different from that one.

Anywho, different sites seem to list this as different things; MangaUpdates, which I trust more, lists it as Shounen, while MangaFox lists it as Shoujo. I can see where people are thinking that this is shoujo are coming from, though I kinda doubt that it is. It's running in Comic Blade. All the series running in it are either seinen, or shounen. Nevertheless, it's a great series. Like her previous works, Aqua and Aria, it's a nice series that you can just kick back to and relax while reading. No testosterone pumped muscle freaks, no annoying main characters with homosexual urges towards his main rival, no fight scenes lasting 40 volumes, no- you get the point.

If you haven't by now, I suggest that you take a look at Amano's more famous works, Aqua and Aria (in that order). She has a few other works, though I don't think too many people know of them...

Manga of ze Week - モモ

I feel like I've put this one up before...but it doesn't seem that I have.

Title: モモ, Momo
Author: Sakai Mayu
Genre: Shoujo, Comedy, Fantasy, Romance, Supernatural
Serialized in: Shueisha Ribbon
Total Volume Count: 3 (ongoing)

Summary from StarryHeaven:
On her sixteenth birthday, the unlucky, unmotivated and good-for-nothing Odagiri Yume saves the high-classed and lovely Momo, who claims to be the Devil. Yume confesses her wish to become special and Momo grants it: she makes Yume the representative of the earth! From now on her sixteenth birthday until her eighteenth, Yume has to give Momo seven good reasons as to why the earth shouldn’t be destroyed. The countdown for the destruction of the world has begun and only Yume can stop it.
Kenn's Comment: x3 Momo is so flipping cute. I want to hug her! No, I don't. I'd be mistaken for a pedophile and taken away. I guess there's no omochikaeri for me. ;o;

Anywho, it's a nice cute story, and Momo is so flipping cute. Wait, I said that already, didn't I? I suppose it's a take on 2012. xD

Manga of ze Week - ヤンデレ彼女

Yes, yes, I know. It's Monday. Been playing more of Demon's Soul as of late, and I've been on the PS3 all day. =w= Almost finished, and there's an event this week.

Anywho, I still need to get my camera back from Jason (I've forgotten to get it three days in a row now), and I'm gonna try getting a piece of poster board for Miku's photo gallery. Gonna try and make myself a photo box thingy. It'll work out fine. Once I get my camera.

Title: ヤンデレ彼女, Yandere Kanojo
Author: Shinobi
Genre: Shounen, Comedy, Romance
Serialized in: Square Enix Gan Gan Joker, Square Enix Gan Gan Online
Total Volume Count: 1 (ongoing)

Summary from MangaUpdates:
Tanaka Manabu is a geeky student, on the way to school he meets a girl carrying a bloody bat. That girl is Ryuuzaki Reina, leader of the school's female delinquents. It's love at first sight. A gag manga (with a combination of 4koma and normal page) about having a yankee dere-dere girlfriend.
Kenn's Comment:
Uh. I can't remember whether I've done this series yet. I feel like I have, but it'll keep going. Anywho, the "yandere" in this title, is a play on the words "yankee" (delinquent), and "dere". Put them together, and you've got "yandere". It doesn't refer to the "dark love" yandere.

With that aside, it's a fun series. Manabu's great, and Reina's reactions are gold. She looks best in that miniskirt...and that yukata.

Manga of ze Week - 侵略!イカ娘

"あんたなんか大嫌いでゲソ!"

Isn't she so cute geso? And because she's so cute, here's another image geso.

Title: 侵略!イカ娘, Shinryaku! Ika Musume, Invasion! Squid Girl
Author: Masahiro Anbe
Genre: Shounen, Comedy
Serialized in: Akita Shoten Weekly Shounen Champion
Total Volume Count: 5 (ongoing)

Summary from Hidoi Translators:
The sea in our world has been polluted. All sort of trash were thrown into the sea, making it unpleasant deep under the sea.
One of the inhabitant of the sea, Ika Musume (Squid Girl) seeks to exact revenge on humanity for throwing trash into the sea.
Clueless about the surface, she seeks to invade humanity alone, trying to rule over the world, only to find herself slaving away at one of the nearest beach-houses for breaking a side of its wall.
Kenn's Comment:
Ika Musume is love geso. The chapters are short, but they're all really funny and cute geso. Did I mention that Ika Musume is love geso? Reminds me of Keroro and his er..failed invasion plans geso. The only difference is that Ika Musume is a million times cuter geso. =3= Scanlations for it are going almost nowhere though geso.

Manga of ze Week - はじめてのあく

Haha, another week, another manga! This time, I've made a character flow chart, relevant up to chapter 44. Because it's massive, I stuck it after the jump. And now, without further ado, jump the jump!!

Title: はじめてのあく, My First Mr. Akuno (I know, doesn't make much sense)
Author: Fujiki Shun
Genre: Shounen, Comedy, Romance, Sci-Fi
Serialized in: Shogakukan Shounen Sunday
Total Volume Count: 3 (ongoing)

Summary from MangaUpdates:

In the spring of Kyoko's first year in high school, Eiko, a girl like a sister to her, returns with her younger brother, Jiro.
The return isn't that big of a deal, but Jiro (self-proclaimed super mad scientist) has it in his head that he wants to operate on Kyoko! And, what's even more, the two of them are actually high ranking members of an evil organization on the run from the heroes of justice!
As if high school didn't have enough problems already, now she has to deal with these two living with her.

Kenn's Comment: Great series. It's one of the series that I look forwards to every week. The comedy is great, and with it's cast of zany characters and the various situations they end up in, I don't think there was ever a boring chapter. Definitely recommend this.

You'll have to click this to actually see it.

Manga of ze Week - キャットストリート

Aights, another week, another manga. This one's a good one.

Title: キャットストリート, Cat Street
Author: Kamio Yoko
Genre: Shoujo, Drama, Romance, Slice of Life
Serialized in: Shueisha Bestuma
Total Volume Count: 8 (completed)

Summary from Condensation:
The story centers around Keito Aoyama, a former famous child actor. Due to a childhood incident, she retired from her career early and withdrew from normal society. Now 16, she passes her days in boredom and without purpose. But one day she runs into a stranger who takes her to El Liston--a free school for high school students like herself, who don't have a place where they belong. Though hesitant at first, Keito decides to enter El Liston and subsequently, she begins a new stage in her life. With the help of her only remaining childhood friend, Taiyou, and her new classmates Rei, Momiji, and Kouichi, Keito slowly finds the courage to open up to others and to accept their support. Will Keito return to acting? Will she find true friends? Love?

Kenn's comment:
It's good. Read it. xD There's a live action rendition of it. Still trying to finish it. Half way there. But it's good.

Manga of ze Week - にゃんこい!

(awesome) Image by nanao

Brrrr...it's so cold.

Title: にゃんこい!, Nyan Koi! (Nyan is the Japanese equivalent of "meow")
Author: Fujiwara Sato
Genre: Shounen, Comedy, Romance, Supernatural
Serialized in: Flex Comix Comix Blood
Total Volume Count: 4 (ongoing)

Summary from Manga Updates:
The story is about a second-year high school student named Junpei Kousaka, who not only hates cats but also is allergic to them. Unforunately, he happens to have a crush on a girl, Kaede Mizuno, who really loves cats. On the way home from school one day, Junpei kicks an empty can and happens to accidentally hit the Guardian Deity of Cats. Now he's able to understand cats but was practically given a curse. He has to grant 100 wishes from any cat or he'll turn into a cat himself.

Kenn's Comment: Yes, there's an anime series for it going at the moment. It's been pretty faithful to the manga, with changes here and there. Anywho, the manga is great. It's a nice light hearted series, with good comedy, great characters, and cats (Kenn is a fan of cats).

I like the series mainly because, while being a harem based, shounen romance,  it's not as bad as other ones out there. Yes, Kousaka's a dense idiot, but he does get stuff through his head (when it's not filled with cat allergens or Mizuno). Also, unlike other shounen romance series, it's not filled with unnecessary fanservice shots. Now, people like Andrew will argue that fanservice is always necessary, and I'll let them believe what they believe. Anywho, it's nice because it's popular without the need of the fanservice that shounen series are so saturated with.

I'd recommend the manga to anyone just looking for something good to read. Plus, the stuff they changed in the anime was fairly important to the plot, so the manga's the one you want to read for better shipping material (I'm personally rooting for Kanako).

Manga of ze Week - 破天荒遊戯

Title: 破天荒遊戯, Hatenkou Yuugi, Unprecedented Game, Dazzle (US title)
Author: Endou Minari
Genre: Shoujo, Action, Adventure, Comedy, Drama, Fantasy, Supernatural
Serialized in: Ichijinsha Comic Zero-Sum, Square Enix GFantasy, Tokyopop (US license)
Total Volume Count: 11 (ongoing)

Kenn's Comment: I guess it's a love-it-or-hate-it series, looking at all the reviews up on MangaUpdates. If it ain't a high rating, it's a low rating. I rather like the series, and I'd recommend it to people for reading. I don't see why people complain about the art. I think it's perfectly fine. Maybe they're reading terrible scans or something. Oh, speaking of art, I love how Rahzel has a different outfit every outing. They're always cute too. Coming from her running-gag-bag-of-infinite-holding. I'm guessing the people who are giving really low rating for the manga are the type of people who think Kubo Tite's art is awesome, which..really..it isn't. Oh and, yes there's an anime for the series. But I don't really think that the anime does the series justice.

Summary from MangaUpdates:
A young girl named Rahzel is booted out of her house one day by her father with the instructions to 'see the world.' And so her journey begins. However, she won't be doing it alone... for she befriends a stoic young man named Alzeid seeking revenge for his father's murder.
Alzeid and Rahzel are like oil and water... but even still, they feel strangely drawn to one another. This could be either the result of an underlying attraction -- or their shared powers with magic. And so, the two reluctant allies travel from town to town, using their powers to help the helpless, while discovering their own respective places in the world.

Manga of ze Week - シュトヘル

 Cover of Volume 1

Title: シュトヘル, Shut Hell
Author: Itoh Yu
Genre: Seinen, Action, Historical
Serialized in: Shogakukan Big Comic Spirits
Total Volume Count: 1 (ongoing)

Kenn's Comment: Duuude. Intense. Okay, so not really, but the manga is still really good. It's not often you have a main character that's female, and so bad-ass. Despite being so incredibly savage, Shut Hell still acts feminine, so she really never gives off that crazed axe-murderer feel...although a yandere end might occur if you decide to raise her flag. I'd don't recommend reading this series if you can't take copious amounts of blood.

Summary from MangaUpdates:
Beginning of the 13th century.

In the days of old existed a woman warrior named Shut Hell, the Evil One, feared even by the Mongols, said to be the strongest army in history.

At first, she was just a normal Tangut's soldier frightened by the mongol threat, but after coming close to death so many times, she found in herself a superhuman strength.

On the other side, a young mongol prince, Yurul, is fascinated by the Tangut's, his enemies' writings, and is worried for the future....

Manga of ze Week - 戦国妖狐

Image of cover (volume 1)

Sorry, missed it yesterday. It'll be back on Sunday again next week.

Title: 戦国妖狐, Sengoku Youko
Author: Mizukami Satoshi
Genre: Shounen, Action, Adventure, Fantasy, Supernatural
Serialized in: Mag Garden Comic Blade
Total Volume Count: 4 (ongoing)

Kenn's Comment: It's quite different from his other works, such as Lucifer and the Biscuit Hammer, and Psycho Staff. I think it's a good bit better than them too. His art has a rather distinct style to it, so its pretty simple to recognize. Now, I don't mean that in a bad way. Despite the summary, the story gets pretty dark, pretty fast. (See: Lots of people die) It's rather deceptive. xD

Summary from MangaUpdates:
"Stop your evil deeds and take the right path!" That is the creed of Youko Tama and her younger step brother, Jinka Sendou. The two demon siblings travel the country to stop the deeds of all evil doers, along with a scaredy cat swordsman they picked up along the way, Hyoudou Shinsuke. Their travels lie with many twists and turns, as well as wacky characters they'll meet along the way.

Title: 東方儚月抄 ~ 月のイナバと地上の因幡, Touhou Bougetsushou - Tsuki no Inaba to Chijou no Inaba, Touhou - Inaba of the Moon and Inaba of the Earth
Author: ZUN, Arata Toshihira
Genre: Comedy, Fantasy
Serialized in: Ichijinsha 4-Koma Kings Pallette
Total Volume Count: 2 (Complete)

Kenn's Comment: A funny 4 koma series about Udongein Inaba Reisen, which'll have you really feeling that she's pulled the short end of the straw, every single time. Reisen's one of my favourite Touhou characters, and is competed for 1st place with Reimu ^^"
The art work is cute too ;D I don't think you really need to know too much about Touhou to enjoy it, as there is a bit of an intro to the manga that explains a bit. Aside from that, I don't think there's really anything that would need explanations in the manga.

Summary from MangaUpdates:
A Cute and funny set of stories about two Rabbit Girl yokai - Reisen Udongein Inaba, Tewi Inaba and an Exiled Lunar Princess - Kaguya Houraisan along with Reisen's Master - Erin Yagokoto, and their everyday life in Eientei.

Manga of ze Week - 3月のライオン

Image by Umino Chika (cover of volume 1)

Title: 3月のライオン, 3gatsu no Lion, March Lion, March Comes in like a Lion
Author: Umino Chika
Genre: Seinen, Drama, Slice of Life
Serialized in: Hakushensha Young Animal
Total Volume Count:  3 (ongoing)

Kenn's Comment: Not many chapters have been scanlated, but from the...6 chapters I can say that I really, really enjoyed those 6 chapters. If I had it my way, I'd be able to read it without the translations. But if I had everything my way, I'm sure most of the world would be underneath me, praying to the new ruler.

Summary from MangaUpdates:
Kiriyama Rei is a 17-year old professional shōgi player and very good at it, but in real life, he has nothing. Quiet and not very social, Rei has no family, very few friends, and he doesn't go to school. He is acquainted with a neighboring woman named Akari who single-handedly lives and cares for her two younger sisters, Momo and Hinata. It's life-ish seinen, with strong monologues and reflections by Rei.
